2017 AZ State Button Convention

The theme of this years Arizona State Button Society convention was Blue Hawaii. ASBS President Val was splendid in her Hawaiian look. Admission was a $5 donation at the door and the venue was the Hilton Garden Inn in Avondale.

There were many competition boards to admire. These two popped out at me. The first is shell.

I love these Gay Ninetes buttons, think Oscar Wilde era, 1890’s. They were photographed with permssion from vendors Deborah Hanson & Jane Quimby, bysonbuttons.com

This Gay Nineties button was photographed with permssion from Perennial Buttons

Did you know horses can wear buttons like these, one on each side? Photographed with permssion from Glenda Boyer.

Isn’t this buckle lovely? It is Marie Antoinette & Count Ferson. Photographed with permssion from Deborah Hanson & Jane Quimby, bysonbuttons.com

The Seven Fortune Gods. Photographed with permssion from Carolyn Boes, Buttons & Boes

I think these buckles are magnificent. From the estate of Coleen Jensen

Division II / Military buttons “poke box”

Flapper Buttons from the 1920’s These gals held up the garter stockings. I think there were close to 40 different ones and they each have names. There’s even a policeman. Last year I bought the one named Ruby. Photographed with permssion from Elaine Crossman

This is inside the convention. Up close are the competition trays and the tables are where we flip thru button boards and poke boxes. Looks exciting doesn’t it? When you’re on the hunt for  something specific, it’s super fun. This year I was looking for livery & uniform buttons with initials of my family members. I’m going to shadow box them & put them on display.

So these are my picks from yesterday’s button show / which is you’re favorite? I  initial livery & uniform buttons. The little L & No are from jeans and are called Rivet Shank Buttons. The “C” is from the Downtown Abbey era & I’ll use the NFS/ National Fire Service buttons on my displays that are Not For Sale. Clever ehh? I thought the 3 girls looked like my sisters @vintagebyjen & @mandajojake79 / the large mask button is a gift for my son Avery & the large lock button will become the centerpiece on a necklace. MB & swoopy R remind me of close friends. Fun, fun, fun
