This month marks the 1 yr anniversary of my new little business, Ruby Mae Jewelry.
So much has happened that it's hard to believe where I started & where I am now. Looking back, the numbers tell the story.
I've created close to 400 items.
I've worked 12 festivals & 5 home shows.
I've obtained 4 licenses & started a blog.
My story has been published 3 times & I did my first podcast.
Some of my pieces are sold in 3 retail outlets & online.
I launched my website & my gallery has over 250 pics in it. I've learned about buttons, quilts, tools, writing code, creating a press kit, photography, displays & shipping.
I've decided on my gift bags, stickers, earring tags, business cards, stamps, logo & stationary.
I've changed my displays 6 times & have finallly settled on a look. I attended my 1st button convention & a gem show.
I've connected with a wide variety of women. They've shared with me the stories of their mothers & grandmothers, sisters, friends & aunts.
I've passed out over 300 ovarian cancer awareness cards.
I've accepted help. My dad joined my business in December & my eldest son Avery makes my Ruby Mae charms. The boys pack/unpack my Excursion.
I couldn't have done it without all my wing women supporting, encouraging, & rooting me on.
I miss my mom so much & I firmly believe that Ruby Mae has helped me everyday, in every way cope with the loss of my precious mother, Patty Mae Jacobson.
Looking forward to this next year, my plans are to get my Ruby Mae trademark, work a dozen shows, inlcuding some really big ones.
I want to do more homes shows & expand the inventory on my website. I plan to do YouTube videos, get published on azcentral.com & in the AZ Republic.
Lastly, I want to keep meeting new women, continue creating everyday & spread the word about ovarian cancer awareness.
What a year it's going to be. Love it. -Leah
You rock Leah! It has been so fun to watch your business grow. You are creative and such a go getter – love it! Best wishes for the future of Ruby Mae Jewelry. ~ Cathy
Thank you Cathy. I often think of what you’ve accomplished with Caketini and it inspires me. I remember the day in the lunch room cafeteria when you said to Carrie & I, “I want to open a cupcake shop”. Look where the seed of an idea has taken you, and me & hopefully others will follow their dreams too.
Love it.
